With Avatar poised to overtake Titanic as the highest earning film in the history of cinema, just thought it would be a good post to "educate" the rakyat on some Film 101. Here's the top ten list of highest earning movies in film history. You can check out the full list here.
Movie: Titanic
Year: 1997
Gross: $1,848,813,795
Titanic gave us so many memorable moments, the stupid Celine Dione song. Quotes like, "You jump, I jump." "I'm flyyying!" "I'm King of the Woooorld! "Wearing ONLY this."
And personally for me.. it was the first time I saw a naked chick. Thank you Kate Winslett. Thank you!!
Movie: Avatar
Year:2009
Gross: $1,662,429,598
Personally I still feel 500 Days of Summer was the best film of 2009. But Avatar is going to be the film that people will still be talking about 30 years from now. Why? Because it was a global cultural phenomenon. Because it was a breakthrough in cinema experience. It's 2001, it's Star Wars, it's one of those moments that captured the world in awe.
Movie: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Year: 2003
Gross: $1,119,110,941
Tell me you didn't go wow during the Ride of the Rohirrim. There aren't many 4 hour films that can keep an audience at the edge of their seats throughout the show. Can't wait for the Hobbit to come out.
Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Year: 2006
Gross: $1,066,179,725
WHAT? This movie beat The Dark Knight?! The only saving graces in Dead Man's Chest was.. Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy and that Kraken scene. Oh and Keira Knightley's sternum.
Movie: The Dark Knight
Year: 2008
Gross: $1,001,921,825
Kinda surprised it didn't land on number 2 or something. And I don't really need to comment on this much.. greatest crime and comic book film of all time.
Movie: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Year: 2001
Gross: $974,733,550
I'm getting...
Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Year: 2007
Gross: $960,996,492
Really lazy..
Movie: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Year: 2007
Gross: $938,212,738
To comment...
Movie: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Year: 2009
Gross: $929,359,401
On the other.....
Movie: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Year: 2002
Gross: $925,282,504
Movies...

ReplyDelete"Of All Time?" Where is Gone with the Wind, Star Wars and The Sound of Music?
ReplyDeleteIf the inflation rates would be adjusted, GWTW would still be on the top of the list.
The 4th Harry Potter film was the best in the series.
